Fundraising One Plate at a Time to Help Underserved Schools in Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz. - July 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Tempe, Ariz. -- Top of the Rock restaurant, located on the property of the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at the Buttes resort announces their July Charity Menu.  Each month the award-winning restaurant chooses one local nonprofit for fundraising and offers a prix-fixe, three-course menu with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the organization. July’s “charity dinner” benefits Act One Foundation, a Phoenix-based nonprofit supporting educational field trips to the visual and performing arts for Arizona's underserved schools.

The July menu was created by Top of the Rock’s creative culinary staff and features a refreshingly light dinner option inspired by traditional Southwestern and Sonoran cuisine and costs $34.95 per person, with an optional $15.00 wine pairing. Five dollars of every Charity Menu sold this month will be donated to Act One Foundation in early August.  The menu consists of:

1st Course
Jicama Street “Snack”

Fresh Jicama, Grilled Pineapple Sticks, Key Lime, Chile Dust

Optional Wine Pairing: Graf Hardegg Gruner Veltliner

2nd Course
Duck Confit Enchiladas

Smokey Guajillo Sauce, Calabacita Con Queso, Petite Mizuna Salad

Optional Wine Pairing: Brownstone Pinot Noir

3rd Course
Dulce De Leche Mini Tortes

Caramel Sauce, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Optional Wine Pairing: Jacobs Creek Sweet Moscato

We are so pleased to partner with Top of the Rock on this initiative,” states Act One Foundation’s Executive Director Teniqua Broughton.  “The restaurant’s reputation for its commitment to the community is second only to its amazing views of the Valley of the Sun. This is such an easy way for people to invest in the lives of local students; just by having dinner out on the town.  I love it!

Act One Foundation was founded in 2011 by J. Russell and Linda “Mac” Perlich, to address the need of fifty percent of the Arizona public schools that were not providing integrated arts education in the curriculum due to budget constraints and other identified barriers necessary for underserved and Title I schools to take part in academically enriching visual and performing arts learning opportunities.  Their belief is that arts learning encourages student participation with the arts and culture in their community and fosters civic engagement. Each year, Act One serves over 20,000 underserved students in Arizona, ranging in ages 5 to 18 years old in grades K-12.  For more information or to donate, please contact Act One Foundation at http://www.act1az.org/.
