Paula and the Pontiacs to Perform at the 2013 Blues in da Parish Festival

NEW ORLEANS - July 12, 2013 - PRLog -- The 2013 Blues in da Parish Festival will be held on October 5, 2013 from 11 am to 6 pm at Docville Farm, 5125 E St Bernard Hwy in Violet, LA. Taking the stage this year from 1:30 pm  - 2:30 pm will be Paula and the Pontiacs, an all-star group of Louisiana musicians known for their "gut-bucket" Blues, classic R&B, and soulful originals.

Paula and the Pontiacs was founded in 1978 by Paula Rangell, whose musical talents include alto saxophone, harmonica and lead vocals. Her instrumental influences range from Lee Allen and King Curtis to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, with vocal inspirations including Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Dina Washington and Ruth Brown to name a few.

After 35 years of singin' the blues, it's no surprise that Living Blues Magazine says "Rangell is a fine instrumentalist and, more importantly, an effective vocalist who has her timing and delivery down".

Since 1984 Paula and the Pontiacs has played extensively in the southern United States, Brazil, St. Croix, Kansas City Blues Festival and Mexico City with Deacon John. Releases include Pontiac Blues (1990), Cadillac Love (1994), 30 by 90 (1997), Live at Ruby's Roadhouse (2000), and Louisiana Bride (2008).

Paula currently plays with the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame Band and her song "Harmonica Girl" has been licensed by RUF Records as a part of World Harmonica, an all-women harmonica players CD scheduled for release in Fall 2013.
