Pixl8 launches Open Source CMS project PresideCMS
"The CMS market place is very crowded, but we believe that PresideCMS presents an attractive alternative to existing common-place systems. Pixl8 is already an active Open Source contributor and we recognise the benefits for both us and our clients of fostering a wider community around this product." Pixl8 Director and Co-founder Alex Skinner said.
PresideCMS has been in development by Pixl8 since 2001 and is a powerful enterprise solution that powers an array of large and high traffic websites including the popular science news portal http://www.scidev.net. PresideCMS provides a user friendly interface and was born from the needs of a busy digital agency due to its rapid, standards-based website production capabilities.
Pixl8 has increased dedicated development resources to the project, and has already received interest from a number of international agencies wishing to contribute to its ongoing success.
For Developers, PresideCMS is built on proven Open Source foundations including Java, Railo (http://getrailo.org), LessCSS, ElasticSearch.org and the MVC framework ColdBox. Whether building simple micro-sites or multi-language portals, clients can leverage the mix of a powerful CMS with a full end-to-end rapid development platform.
"Looking forward, clients will no longer be asked for an up-front license fee. We will, however, continue to sell optional software maintenance packages which include warranty and bug fix guarantees to organisations that need this level of assurance. Whilst other PresideCMS users can choose to develop and support the product either themselves or through chosen web development partners.", said Alex Skinner
Pixl8 will continue to market commercial PresideCMS "module packs" that further accelerate the development of Membership websites, Enterprise document portals and Intranets.
