Visit the IBMD website for worldwide event listings: www.internationalbluesmusicday.com International Blues Music Day – Overview In August 2011, Johnny Childs with the support of over 15,000 Blues fans and musicians, circulated a petition to officially designate the first Saturday in August (of every year) as International Blues Music Day in order to highlight the Blues Music Genre. The Mission: "To celebrate, promote and preserve the rich legacy, tradition, and future of the great American art form and international language known as Blues music" and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. International Blues Music Day is chaired and led by renowned Blues guitarist and songwriter Johnny Childs, who serves as the President for the NYC Blues Society and Director of the IBMD Organization. IBMD is the lead nonprofit organization charged with planning, promoting and producing this annual celebration. The inaugural International Blues Music Day is set for August 3, 2013. International Blues Music Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and Blues enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about Blues and its roots, future and impact; raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; IBMD, Blues Societies, embassies and government outposts around the world will host special events for the first annual International Blues Music Day on August 3, 2013 to honor this revered musical art form. Universities, libraries, schools, community centers, performing arts venues and arts organizations of all disciplines around the world will mark the day through concerts, education programs, seminars, lectures, book readings, public jam sessions, master classes, photo exhibitions, Blues dance recitals, film and documentary screenings and theater presentations. More than one million people around the world will be reached through International Blues Music Day programs and media Coverage on year one. IBMD, The NYC Blues Society & The Sacramento Blues Society will present three high-profile programs: a seven hour music festival & celebration in New York City at Webster Hall; a 5 hr concert in Sacramento, CA at The Lion's Gate Hotel, Special Programming in Mississippi the birthplace of Blues; and a declaration of the establishment of International Blues Music Day at the United Nations (UNESCO) assembly in New York City.
