Frankfurt

One of the world's largest trade fair companies is based in Frankfurt, Germany. The city itself hosts three trade fairs itself- the Internationale  Automobilausstellung (the IAA), the Frankfurt Book Fair, and the ISH.

The IAA is also known as the Frankfurt motor show and usually expects around 850,000 visitors. Despite the main show being hosted in Frankfurt, every other year it is held in Hannover as a Truck Show. The IAA began in 1897 in a small hotel in Berlin, and was hosted there for 54 years until 1951, when it moved to Frankfurt. Will be held between the 10th and 22nd of September, 2013.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest book fair, if arranged by both number of visitors as well as publishing companies represented. The fair sees more than 285,000 visitors each year from over 100 countries. The fair is over 500 years old, and until the 17th century was the most important book fair in Europe, until it was cast into the shadow of Leipzig book fair during the Enlightenment. It regained its role after the Second World War. Will be held between the 9th and 13th of October.

The ISH is the world's leading trade fair in regards to heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Each year 2,300 exhibitors set up shop and the fair's history spans five decades. It takes place over five days in Frankfurt's Exhibition Centre. It was held between the 10th and 14th of March.

Hannover

Hannover is home to the largest exhibition area in the world, known as the Hannover fairground. It hosts some of the largest Trade Fairs in the world, including CeBIT and the "Hannover Messe".

The Hannover Messe is the world's largest Industrial Fair. It expects roughly 250,000 visitors annually and hosts about 6,500 exhibits. It began in 1947 by the local British Government to encourage Industrial growth in the new German state. It became Germany's major industrial fair, replacing the now Eastern city of Leipzig. It takes place between April 8th and the 12th.

CeBIT is the largest computer expo in the world, and its most international. Although a spinoff of the Hannover Messe, it is still in the same location, and expects 335,000 visitors each year. It started in 1970 and at its peak had 850,000 visitors each year. In 2013, it will take place between the fifth and ninth of March.

Munich

Munich is host to the largest trade fair in the world in terms of size; the engineering vehicles fair known as Bauma. It also hosts BAU- An architecture and materials fair.

Bauma is held every three years in the city, and always lasts a week. There was a significant decrease in attendance during the 2010 fair due to the Icelandic volcano eruption that heavily disrupted air travel over Europe, yet still 415,000 people managed to get to the event. 3,150 exhibitors from around 200 countries making an appearance.

BAU is a world leading trade fair of Architecture, Materials and Systems. With 235,000 visitors annually, and 2000 exhibits, it truly is the world's number one exposition on construction design. In 2013, BAU takes place between the 14th and 19th of January.

Berlin

There are two large trade fairs each year that Berlin hosts; the larger is the "Berlin International Green Week", and the other is the IFA, one of the oldest industrial expositions in Germany.

The Green Week is an annual exposition of Agriculture, Horticulture, and various other industries related to food. It sees around 400,000 visitors annually. It started in 1926 and had 50,000 visitors in its first year. It took place every year until the war, and started again in 1948. It became more and more popular to foreign exhibitors and by 1963 only a third were German.

The IFA, known as the "Berlin Radio Show". It traces its routes from 1924. It was attended by 273,800 people in 2003, and by 6,700 journalists. It offers exhibitors a chance to present the latest developments in Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances, and has seen many innovative designs over the years.

Cologne

Cologne is famed for its annual video game exposition, known as Gamescom. It is the world's largest video game event and sees more than 275,000 visitors, 5,500 journalists and 600 exhibitions every year. Every year prestigious companies such as Sony, Microsoft, EA and Bethesda have stands at Gamescom. It will take place August 21-25 this year.

Dusseldorf

Dusseldorf is one of Germany's most popular cities in the world of trade fairs, hosting the boot Dusseldorf, Drupa and the "K" messe.

The Boot Dusseldorf, also known as the Dusseldorf International Boat Show, is one of the world's leading boat shows. It hosts some of the largest boats available for purchase, up to 180 tons. It is unique in this respect; it sees over 1,600 exhibitors from over 50 countries. It saw 250,000 visitors in 2012, and the visitor number peaked in 1992 at 400,000.

The Drupa is the world's largest printing equipment exhibition in the world. It is held every four years and the next is lined up for 2016. Drupa usually expects 400,000 or so visitors a year, 2000 exhibitors and representatives from 54 countries.

The K Messe is the number one international trade fair for Plastics and Rubbers worldwide. 220,000 visitors attend each year, and there are over 3000 exhibitors from 56 countries worldwide. 57 percent of visitors are from abroad.
