Quality Life Center presents two $1000 college scholarship awards to outstanding youth

FORT MYERS, Fla. - July 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Quality Life Center is proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 Emily Thomas College Scholarship awards which are presented to students who have participated in Quality Life Center programs. Paris Ellis and Angel Pena Jr. were each awarded a $1000 scholarship at the center in front of over 100 summer camp students. Paris and Angel have both been working at the center during summer camp, and received abundant cheers from the children in their classes.

“Our 2013 winners are well-rounded young people who have exhibited admirable academic and leadership skills. We are pleased to support them as they begin this exciting chapter in their lives," said Executive Director Abdul’Haq Muhammed. Quality Life Center is committed to helping youth in the community reach their potential.

Paris Ellis graduated from North Fort Myers High School. She was elected to the Student Government Association, and served for three years. She was a member of the JV and Varsity cheerleading teams, National Honor Society, CROP Club and participated in musical theater.  Paris will be attending Florida A & M University in the fall, studying broadcast journalism as well as business.

Angel Pena Jr. was an honor roll student at Gateway Charter.  He was also involved in Student Government for three years, and served as Treasurer.  As Vice President of his school choir, he helped raise over $3000.  In addition to working two jobs this summer, Angel has participated in community service projects through the Key Club.  The first person in his family to go to college, Angel will be attending Sante Fe College in Gainesville, studying business.
