DETROIT - July 5, 2013 - PRLog -- DETROIT, M.I. – MI dealers (http://www.miautotimes.com/) saw automakers increase their numbers this year over last. With new cars available for many of the major automakers, customers visited their local dealers in Detroit and added to the final sale numbers.

June was the strongest month for automakers since the beginning of the automotive slump a few years ago. Pick-up trucks were a big help this month as their numbers seemed to quickly spike.

Of the Detroit Three, Ford Motor Company had the highest change year over year with 13.4 percent; Chrysler was in second with 8.2 percent and General Motors, who sold 264,843 units in June, increased 6.5 percent.

One of the automakers that surprised the industry turned out to be Subaru. With increased numbers of its Forester SUV and Outback crossover, Subaru sold 39,235 vehicles with the largest increase for automakers in the month at 41.6 percent.

All together automakers sold about 1.6 million units in the United States. This is a 6 percent increase from the same time in 2012.

“Once again, American consumers are shrugging off the noise out of Washington about the easing of economic stimulus and potentially higher interest rates, at least for now,” Edmunds senior analyst Michelle Krebs said in the report. “June is proving to be a great month for seeming opposites: small cars and utilities, as well as full-size pickup trucks.”

Foreign automakers such as Toyota, Nissan and Honda also increased for June as well. The final numbers for these automakers were 9.8 percent, 12.9 percent and 9.7 percent respectively.
