Mandela vs. Obama - Can we Compare These Icons?

New visualization of the accomplishments of these two world leaders stirs controversy.

NEW YORK - July 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Viewers on the LA Digital scene and on South African blogs have responded angrily to a new visualization by the author of the graphic novel, "White Shaka Boy", comparing Barack Obama to Nelson Mandela.

Some decried the fact that Mandela struggled in jail for 27 years while Obama seems to have glided to success: from a pleasant island to an Ivy League education and a career as a lawyer and politician before becoming President of the US.

In response, the author says this is an overreaction and a misunderstanding ofthe relationship between these two figures. "While no one questions the fact that Mandela's struggle dwarfs Obama's, the fact remains that Mandela made an Obama possible: he stood for racial conciliation. But it also puts a kind of obligation on Obama to open a door of his own - which may be his real life struggle."

What this Vizi has done is make people people think about Barack Obama - who he really is what he really stands for. It also makes us think about what has happened in the U.S. in this generation.
