MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - July 3, 2013 - PRLog -- MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2013) – The Collins Park Neighborhood Association’s (CPNA) Board of Directors voted overwhelmingly (93 percent) to support Miami Beach’s selection of a developer for the city’s convention center, with a 3 to 1 margin supporting Portman-CMC’s plan over the South Beach ACE proposal. In a public letter to the Mayor, City Manager, and City Council members, the organization urged the City Commission to move forward with its selection, noting its majority support for Portman-CMC.

“We ask that you select a developer and work expeditiously to fast track a new convention center for Miami Beach,” the letter said. “It is an economic engine we cannot afford to lose or allow some other community to stick the shovel in the ground first.”

CPNA’s mission is to develop, enhance and improve the residential, commercial, and cultural qualities of the Collins Park neighborhood in Miami Beach that make the area both historically important and richly vibrant. The neighborhood includes the Miami Beach Convention Center district, including City Hall, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and the Holocaust Memorial.

The organization highlighted the benefits that will be brought to Miami Beach by the development project, if approved, while also noting the positive impact it would have for public opinion about city government.

“This (project) gives you the chance to end your commission in November on the highest note, the one everyone will remember. Please take this opportunity for both the community and yourselves.”

CPNA also called on the City to announce its decision by the currently slated deadline of Wednesday, July 17. “Do not stall making a decision any longer. On July 17th, pick a developer and move forward,” the letter said.
