MARLTON, N.J. - July 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Marlton/NJ – Universal Service Administration Corporation (USAC) http://www.usac.org/sl/ has now enabled online filing for Funding Year 2014 (FY2014) for the FCC Form 470, Description of Services Requested and Certification Form. The first day of FY2014 is July 1, 2014. USAC is an  independent, not-for-profit corporation designated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) http://transition.fcc.gov/learnnet/ as the administrator of the universal service fund (USF). USAC collects contributions from telecommunications carriers and administers support programs designed to help communities across the country secure access to affordable telecommunications services. Through administration of these programs, USAC provides support for high cost companies in rural areas, eligible consumers, rural health care providers, schools, and libraries.

The Schools and Libraries (E-rate) Program of the USF makes discounts available to eligible schools and libraries for telecommunication services, Internet access, and internal connections. The program is intended to ensure that schools and libraries have access to affordable telecommunications and information services. Discount percentages are determined by the number of students in a district who qualify for free and reduced price lunches (National School Lunch Program or NLSP). Libraries use the student numbers (total and NSLP-eligible) for the public school district in which the library is located.

“We were a leading New Jersey E-rate service provider in Funding Year 2013, providing over $8.5 million in telecom and Internet services to the majority of New Jersey’s school districts”, notes Liz Sorino, Xtel’s Executive Vice President. “For many schools, E-rate provides the opportunity for technology upgrades that districts simply could not afford without this funding,” she adds. “We’ve specialized in custom solutions for K-12 schools since our inception in 1994. We know schools, we know E-rate, and we’re ready to assist New Jersey’s school districts in the new funding year!”
