ALBUM : Soul on Fire
LABEL  : R Steel Entertainment
RELEASE DATE : 17th September 2013

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina - home of "American Gangster" Frank Lucas - ethemadassassin once again brings his own firebrand hip hop to the table with his 3rd solo album "Soul on Fire"

Its the first since "Tomorrow Never Comes" in 2008 which included the single "Walk My Shoes", the video for which was playlisted by the UK's MTV Base and Flava TV, and which also reached Number 3 in the Rap Networks Chart. His releases always leave their mark, with the 2004 debut album "Proverbs" topping the Rap Attack Lives chart, the longest running College Rap Radio network in the United States. Like a President's term in office, the  4  years of hard work are up and a new album delivered ready for judgement.

Since the release of "Tomorrow Never Comes" he has swapped coasts, moving to Los Angeles, California to team up with his old Greensboro sparring partner Veteran Eye to form Veteran Assassins. As a group they have toured the west coast with Project Blowed's Kandi Cole and released 2 albums while still retaining solo careers.

E is a veteran in every sense of the word, performing since the 80's and originally using the name Easy E prior to NWA's emergence. Having earned a reputation as a fierce rap battle MC, he also became respected for his representation of the world around him in his rhymes. Living in Henderson NC at the time with two major highways running through it, he witnessed a massive influx of drugs dealers & hustlers to the town with inevitable consequences for the community.  He relates these stories straight from the hip, no glorification or embellishment. There's no sugar coating but nor is there any pulling back from reality

The new album is a documentation of his past and his present, described by the man himself as "the latest chapter in the book of my life". There is a predominantly live feel to the music throughout, drawing from that Golden Era sound in which he grew up and started performing. The production is laced with a mix of soul, r&b and rock samples combined with hard driving hip hop beats which compliment his aggressive flow style. Lyrically, the album title "Soul on Fire" is a good indicator of the inspiration in subject matter and also delivery in wordplay.

Its a refreshingly open, honest and clever depiction by ethemadassassin of the various aspects to his life.  "80's & 90's" reflects back to an era currently being revisited in the United States and has a cultural checklist that will be well remembered by some, educational for others. "Can't Get Enough" has dual meaning - the hussle for success and his addiction to music. The track also acknowledges his work with British and European producers.

His passion and lyrical skills are evident throughout. Titles such as "Sparta", "Fight Music" & "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me" signals his intentions, while just as easily flipping it over to a more contemplative stance in tracks such as "Letter To Mommy" and "Gratitude"

ethemadassassin isnt an artist who is influenced by the Golden Era of hip hop from a distance, he lived and performed through it.  But neither is he stuck there.  The production,  flow style and wordplay are impressive by any era's standards, skills honed over the decades.

The caliber of recent independent hip hop releases from both sides of the Atlantic continues to rein in a new generation of fans. "Soul on Fire" stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of them and will undoubtedly build on E's impressive introduction to the UK in '08.  A very welcome return.

The video for the track "What Its Supposed to Be" was launched as an early taster of the album.  Produced by Kyo Itachi it can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52LCFrVXv60
