July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Former rhythm and blues singer and Grammy award winner Joe Simon, now Bishop Joe Simon, has just picked up his brand new autobiography from Publishers’ Graphics, LLC in Carol Stream, Ill. The book is entitled Don’t Give Up, You Can Make It If You Try, You Can Win. It tells the inspiring rags-to-riches saga of Bishop Simon’s ascendancy to soul stardom, only to eventually abandon the trappings of fame and fortune to devote his life to spreading the word of God to the masses.

Victoria Shapiro and Steve Boruchschomer, spokespersons for Spickum Publishing, said, “The Spickum Publishing Organization is going all out in promoting this exciting and awesome book throughout the entire world. Everyone should have this exhilarating and historically educational book that exposes in depth the life and times of the legendary Joe Simon.”

Born in Simmesport, Louisiana, Simon gravitated to northern California’s Bay Area in his teens, launching his spectacular career by singing doo-wop and living for years in a chicken coop due to poverty prior to his career igniting. Once he scored his first national hit in 1965 with the Muscle Shoals-cut “Let’s Do It Over” for Vee-Jay Records, however, Simon’s name began to spread rapidly among R&B fans. Teaming with famous Nashville deejay/record producer John Richbourg at Sound Stage 7 Records the following year, Simon embarked on an incredible hitmaking run, waxing such soul classics as “Teenager’s Prayer” (his first SS7 hit in 1966), “My Special Prayer” and “Nine Pound Steel” in ’67, 1968’s “(You Keep Me) Hangin’ On,” and his ’69 R&B chart-topper “The Chokin’ Kind.” Joe had achieved major R&B stardom, continuing his streak of smashes at Spring Records with “Your Time To Cry,” the Gamble/Huff-produced “Drowning In the Sea Of Love” (produced by Gamble and Huff), “Power Of Love,” and “Theme From Cleopatra Jones” (the title theme from the Warner Bros. film Cleopatra Jones).

After an incredible run of secular stardom, Simon abandoned show business and gave his life to the Lord. He established his own ministry, which he heads in a southern suburb of Chicago, and preaches wherever he’s needed across the nation. It’s a fascinating, inspiring, frequently hilarious story, told by the man who lived it. You’ll learn why Bishop Simon was a reluctant star even when his R&B career was at its zenith, read about his cross-country and global tours and encounters with other legendary stars of the era, and gain real insight into the Bishop’s religious teachings (he no longer sings his old hits, but does occasionally record spirituals).

Bishop Simon sincerely believes the title of his autobiography. After reading this book, you will too!
