June 28, 2013 - PRLog -- http://imperialpools.com would like to share with you 13 fantastic tips on how to conserve water in your swimming pool (http://imperialpools.com/why-buy-a-pool).

1.      •

Have your pool tested for leaks and repair any visible leaks immediately. Use a grease pencil to mark the water level of your pool skimmer, and check the mark 24 hours later to see if you have a leak.

2.     Keep your pool covered when not in use to minimize evaporation, especially at night. Use a liquid solar cover in the spring and fall.

3.     Do not overfill or leave running water unattended. Consider installing an automatic fill device. They turn on and off to keep water at the proper level. If you have an automatic refilling device, make sure you check your pool more often for leaks.

4.     Naturally, avoid excessive splashing games or splashing of water out of the pool.

5.     Use chemicals judiciously and always try to use the least amount possible to achieve the intended purpose.

6.     Turn off unnecessary fountains and waterfalls. Use timers to automatically shut off fountains, waterfalls, and pool filters when not needed. You’ll save energy by turning off the pumps, thereby reducing the amount of water that’s lost to aeration and evaporation.

7.     Keep your water level low; besides conserving water, keeping a lower water level in the pool helps reduce water loss from extreme splashing and boisterous water play. It’s a good idea to keep the water level 1 inch above the bottom of the pool tile, eight if you have a pool heater.

8.     Reduce the water temperature during the summer. Doing so reduces the occurrence of water loss due to heat. This is especially important when the pool isn’t being used.

9.     Use a pool cover at night to keep the pool and filters clean. This reduces the frequency of backwash.

10.  Only backwash long enough for the water in the sight-glass to run clean. Properly maintained systems can lead to better water quality, lessoning the frequency of backwashing.

11.  Water your plants or your lawn with backwash water. Empty the filter backwash onto lawns and shrubs, or collect it to reuse. Make sure your landscaping has absorbed the backwash.

12.  Add pool chemicals at night. The sun quickens the dissipation of chlorine, making the evening the best time to add sanitizer to your pool.

13.  Use plants to cut down on evaporation. Plant pool-area shrubs and use fences or privately screening as barriers or to help reduce water loss from wind evaporation. Decreasing the occurrence and amount of wint doing across the pool will cut down on evaporation.

Remember: if you don’t waste water and you keep your pool properly maintained,  you’re headed for a beautiful summer.
