In Memoriam: Michael Roman, The Catering Guru

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. - June 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Chicago, June 27, 2013—It is with deep sadness that the CateringGuru.com team announces the unexpected passing of catering industry legend Michael Roman.

“We recently said goodbye to a wonderful, wonderful man,” said Lisa Richards, Founder and CEO of Festivities Catering and Picnic People, a San Diego special events and catering company.  “Michael was a gentle soul who held special connections with people and caterers all around the world.  He was an educator and an unbelievably amazing mentor.”

Michael Roman, also known as the “Catering Guru,” was a well-known business leader, expert and consultant, and an esteemed teacher. Throughout his decades of experience in the industry, Roman shared countless lessons with catering professionals worldwide.  Roman and his wife Bernice were the founders of Catersource, a magazine, conference and tradeshow dedicated to the education and growth of the professional caterer. Roman worked diligently to propel the catering industry forward, and succeeded in taking it to new heights.

Roman also authored several books sharing tactics and strategies for success within the catering industry, among them, If You Don’t Sell It, You Can’t Cook It; Secrets of Catering Management; and Catering: Tips, Tactics & Strategies.  His legacy of invaluable knowledge on catering and building catering businesses, and his passion for educating industry personnel of all skill levels, will live on through his website, www.cateringguru.com.

“Mike wanted his amazing legacy to live on long after he did,” said Erin Walter, Co-founder and CEO of nuphoriq, a Chicago-area marketing company specializing in branding, strategizing and promoting catering and special events organizations. “Fortunately, that legacy has a place to do so.  In addition to the thousands of friends he recruited into this astonishing community of caterers, Michael left us with the knowledge and ability to continue building.  His invaluable lessons and the information present throughout his website will impact the lives of thousands more caterers to come.”

Memorial services will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, June 27^th, at Lakeside Congregation, 1221 County Line Road, in Highland Park, Illinois.  Shiva will begin directly following the service at 834 Marion Avenue until 9:00pm, and will continue on Friday and Saturday at 2626 North Lakeview Avenue in Chicago from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, respectively.
