MASON, Ohio - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Karaoke World Championships USA (http://www.kwcusa.net/) announced plans to educate and support efforts to reduce karaoke piracy with a focused effort. KWCUSA and Talent Quest National Karaoke Contest (TQ) (http://www.talentquest.org/) (http://talentquest.org )are the two largest karaoke competitions in the USA and together with Karaoke Industry Leaders such as Sound Choice and Digitrax (Karaoke Cloud) will educate and provide opportunities for illegal Karaoke Hosts to become legal.

KWCUSA has supported karaoke singers and the karaoke industry from the beginning in 2007 and culminated in a national television show on ABC, “Karaoke Battle USA”. KWCUSA was proud of the show and its honest representation of the karaoke industry.

KWCUSA and TQ both are working to support the effort to reduce piracy, with goals to have a huge positive impact on the entire industry. Now that KWCUSA has directors in many states KWCUSA will focus on legal Karaoke Hosts and Venues that are legal. KWUCSA will also approach venues and host that are not legal in order to provide them with the opportunity to become legal.

KWCUSA will also provide information on our web site dedicated to education for singers, Karaoke Hosts, and venues along with the methods to become legal. The karaoke piracy is broad and impacts every segment of the industry. Even the karaoke singer on the street is impacted. Everything from copied CDs to copied hard drives are being sold by unscrupulous individuals that simply don’t care about the impact on singers or karaoke.  Innocent karaoke singers are being sold laptops with over 100,000 songs and software only to find out that it is totally illegal, even the operating system.  Bars and other venues are being sold hard drives with over 100,000 songs and told it is legal, only to end up being part of a law suit that could costs them up to $2 million dollars.

Karaoke Hosts and Venues are subject to lawsuits brought by the licensee that could include up $150,000 per instance (song) up to $2 million dollars. There is no point in taking that risk. There are good alternatives. KWCUSA will work to present those alternatives and be part of the system.

Wendell Payne, President of KWCUSA says, “The difference in the quality of show between a legal and illegal karaoke hosts is obvious.  This hurts karaoke overall and PROFESSIONAL karaoke hosts care about their singers and the quality of their show. Singers are also impacted directly when karaoke producers can’t afford to release new songs and when publishers and their songwriters deem that KARAOKE does not produce enough revenue for them to grant the rights to user their songs. ”

Payne went on to say, “Education is key, but the time for action is long overdue.  We want to present a positive face and a clear, easy, way to become legal. Those that really care will jump on and take advantage of the opportunities.”
