Staten Island Little League is Going Strong Thanks to Support From Honda

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Thanks to a generous donation from Honda, Staten Island Little League is enjoying a great summer season. After Hurricane Sandy damaged baseball and softball facilities, Honda stepped up and provided the donations that helped to make rebuilding possible. Honda has been a sponsor of Little League Baseball and Softball for 17 years. When the extent of the storm damage became evident, Honda saw this as an opportunity to continue to support a community that it had long been a part of. Last November, Honda pledged to donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross, as well as supplies needed to help with relief. While generators, vehicles, and other donations were giving directly to relief workers to help families, helping to rebuild Little League facilities was an important opportunity to raise morale.

Honda donated an initial $50,000 to help rebuild damaged facilities, including damaged scoreboards and lighting. A large, ceremonial check for the amount was presented to the League on opening day.

Honda recently produced a video titled “Little League vs. Sandy: A Comeback Story” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8jM3wJS7Ho) that gives a glimpse of the hardships faced by Staten Island after the storm, focusing on how the community, and Honda, rallied around rebuilding the ballpark.



Honda also gave Little League fans a chance to generate more money for rebuilding efforts. Fans could raise money by singing “Take me out to the Ballgame” in a Honda Odyssey minivan, a stunt that Honda called “Car-e-oke.” For each parent that participated, Honda donated an extra $50. Other money raising opportunities involved musical chairs and charades.
