RICHMOND, Va. - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- RICHMOND, VA., June 21, 2013—. “The Heart of a Hero: My Journey from Vietnam to the World Trade Center Bombing to 9/11 (ISBN 9781928662877), a newly released memoir by Clarence Singleton, tells the harrowing story of former United States Marine and decorated New York City Firefighter from a hard- scramble childhood through the jungles of Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart, through the dust and rubble of Ground Zero on September 11 to hope and starting over.

The book’s account takes readers through the emotional journey of Singleton’s life, from his humble childhood in South Carolina as one of eight children where the traits that would guide the rest of his life began to take shape, to his life today. In between, he served in the Vietnam War as a US Marine and as a decorated firefighter with the New York City Fire Department whose unit responded to the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 and to Ground Zero in 2001. During his career, Singleton was responsible for saving the lives of countless people through his remarkable bravery, compassion and self-sacrifice.

“I believe that a life of service is the rent we pay for the privilege of being a United States citizen,” states Singleton.

Readers will follow Singleton on a harrowing, emotional journey of perseverance when continuously faced with obstacles and determination to succeed by sustaining hope and serving his country. From the fields of South Carolina across continents and oceans to the jungles of Vietnam to the ash of that unspeakable day in our history to a new marriage and the promise of a loving future, Singleton never gives up even when hope and a miracle are nowhere in sight.

Even facing post-traumatic stress disorder, where every crowded mall or sound of a helicopter sends his body signals that it's time to "fight or take flight," Clarence still puts one foot in front of the other, through his deep faith and abiding sense of duty, to move forward to a miracle. The miracle is each day--and it's a lesson we all can follow. Don't quit until the miracle happens. For Clarence Singleton, each new day is the start of a journey of faith, hope, and love.
