Discussion on The Many Faces of Big Data

Discussion on Big Data complexity and intelligence with Juliana Freire (NYU-Poly), Raghu Ramakrishnan (Microsoft), and Gerhard Weikum (Max Planck Institute for Informatics) on June 27, 2013, at the German Center for Research and Innovation

NEW YORK - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY (June 24, 2013) – The term Big Data is a multifaceted buzzword that everybody defines differently. But a thorough understanding of the many facets of Big Data will enable institutions to make better-informed decisions, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness. How do analysts navigate the challenging data life cycle, moving from raw data to insight? To what extent do data mining, predictive modeling, and data visualization support this process?

Gerhard Weikum, Research Director at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, will discuss the dimensions of Big Data. He will address Big Data length, width, and depth, which collect and compare, discover and integrate, and analyze and understand digital information.

Juliana Freire, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of New York University will focus on the many types of Big Data, data-related complexity, and privacy issues.

Raghu Ramakrishnan, who is Technical Fellow, CTO Information Services at Microsoft, will bring an industry and business perspective to the discussion.
