The primary job of behavior assistant is to provide one-to-one interventions either to a child or adolescent at home, school (if required based on the treatment plan), or other community based settings. The primary aim of BA service is to help stabilize the youth in his/her environment, preventing out of home placement and let youth to stay in a non-restrictive setting. Specific supports/interventions include but are not limited to the use of immediate behavioral reinforcements, emotional support, time out strategies, time structuring activities as well as parent training.

When candidates are applying for Behavioral Assistant Jobs in New Jersey they must be aware of minimum requirements, tasks, responsibilities and other important information. The behavior assistant will receive administrative supervision from clinically licensed team leader. The candidates must understand and adhere to mandatory clinical supervision at one hour per 40 hours worked or one hour a month, which is greater. The assistant will implement a treatment plan also known as BAISP (Behavior Assistant Individual Service Plan) developed by clinically licensed counselor (IIC) working with youth and family.

The minimum requirement a candidate must hold to apply for this position includes: bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related field, two years of relevant direct service experience, work experience with youth facing behavioral and/or emotional challenges, experience working with confidential information and sound technological skills.

The behavioral assistant has to perform host of tasks and take responsibilities. It includes modeling and implementing treatment interventions established IIC as mentioned in the treatment plan, support case managers, school personnel and family’s efforts to stabilize the child or the adolescent, make progress notes describing each client contact and how that contact is relevant to treatment goals, collaborate with other members of treatment team and professionals working in home, or in other community settings as well as participate in Inter-agency/team meetings when required, attend supervision as well as New Jersey mandated Behavioral Assistant trainings when required.

The candidates applying for Behavioral Assistant Jobs should preferably maintain caseloads of minimum five referrals. Each referral is generally authorized for two hours per week. Candidates must also remember that behavioral assistant is a part time job.
