PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil - June 22, 2013 - PRLog -- COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project, so important for the scientific and established communities in Brazil, can only be completed with the financial support (http://www.cobrasbrasileiras.com/how-to-sponsor.html). The funding became essential for projects of this order to be made possible in the country.
COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project constitute a photographic and information database, that will be used for the rapid and efficient identification of snakes of Brazilian fauna, as well as provide information on the initial steps to the diagnosis and treatment of accidents involving these animals. Also be used as an important reference source of local support.
Cover the areas of public health: medical, veterinary, biological, ecological, education and is therefore of great social significance.
The project was initiated in late 2007 by Fernando Bergamaschi de Souza and in May 2008 already received several support and recognition letters by Government and Universities in Brazil (http://www.cobrasbrasileiras.com/support-letters-received.html).
In these years COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project has provided services in counseling, training and identification of animals for countless people and businesses around the country.
As Fernando Bergamaschi, Project coordinator; We arrived at the critical point where, without financial assistance, we can not complete this project, so necessary to the population and the professional environment.

Importance of identifying snakes
Nowadays there is a new scaring deadline, and with growing numbers: In the next 24 hours, 380 persons in Brazil will be bitten by a venomous animal.

The identification of the animal is of vital importance for the decision of the serum to be applied. The anti venom is specific to one snake genre, having no effect on the others and preferably should be administered within the first 2 hours.

The survival of the patient depends very much on the initial measures adopted. The importance of a good source of information for its identification is invaluable.

Accidents caused by snake bites are a serious social and health care problem by the frequency they occur and for the morbidity and mortality caused. The snakebite can have devastating physiological effects in human body because the toxins from the venom of snakes have evolved to reach almost any type of function of the body or body part.

Project Advantages
• This project will save lives! Will benefit you and ALL community. YOU will save lives of people and animals!
• Through the dissemination of knowledge and ease in identifying, the ecological consequences of unnecessary killing of snakes, that pose no danger and are important to the ecological balance, may decrease dramatically.
• Through the Identification Program you will know in advance which animals and local rescue exist in a geographical area. Safer camps and safer rides!
• The WHO - World Health Organization added snakebites to the list of Neglected Tropical Diseases in 2009, but made no provision for seeking global funding to do something about the problem.
With crowdfunding support the COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project will help to minimize this terrible problem!

The Portal prototype on the Internet receives about 18 to 25 thousand visits per month, both of Brazil and several other countries (Google Analytics, Webalizer, AWStats).

The COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project is a work of great relevance to the population and scientific community. Will generate a very good marketing return and a very positive social image for its investors.

Statistics
• Accidents with venomous animals is the 3rd cause of health injury complains in Brazil. MÉDIA ANUAL DE AGRAVOS - SINAN — Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação Health Ministry

• In Brazil there are about 20.000 accidents with snakes annually. Information of Instituto Butantan. (Acidentes com Animais Peçonhentos.pdf)

• In 2005, health authority's registered about 100.000 accidents with venomous animals. (inform. site do Ministério da Saúde).

WHO - Neglected tropical diseases, the researchers estimate that 421,000 envenomings and 20,000 deaths occur worldwide from snakebite each year, but warn that these figures may be as high as 1,841,000 envenoming's and 94,000 deaths, especially in areas of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia where anti venoms are hard to obtain. India has the highest estimated annual envenoming's and deaths: 81,000, and 11,000 respectively..

International Society on Toxinology - Global Snakebite Initiative, we estimate that, globally, at least 421,000 envenoming's and 20,000 deaths occur each year due to snakebite. These figures may be as high as 1,841,000 envenoming's and 94,000 deaths. Based on the fact that envenoming occurs in about one in every four snakebites, between 1.2 million and 5.5 million snakebites could occur annually. CONCLUSIONS: Snakebites cause considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide.

The disorderly growth of urban centers provides more favorable conditions for the establishment and proliferation of these animals among these centers, endangering both people and animals.
