CHICAGO - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- The Midwest Child & Family Institute has launched a “Sickle Cell Clinical Trials Newsletter” which allows those with Sickle Cell Trait or Sickle Cell Disease to search for and participate in hundreds of sickle cell research studies around the world.

For the 2013 calendar year, medical professionals are recruiting sickle cell patients for more than 100 clinical trials.  In North Carolina, Duke University is recruiting patients for the treatment of pain using Heparin.  Duke is also recruiting patients to measure the effectiveness of daily consumption of broccoli in a blended milkshake form for three weeks in the prevention of sickling and subsequent pain crisis.  Also, in the Netherlands, medical professionals are recruiting patients for the treatment of pain using the drug, N-Acetylcystein (NAIC).  The Duke and Netherland trials are expected to close by December 2013, March 2015, and October 2014, respectively. To participate in any of these trials and others being conducted throughout the world, access the MC&FI’s newsletter at www.midwestchild.com/sicklecelltrials.html and click the “View Details” link.  The sponsor’s phone number and e-mail address will be listed for each study.

The MC&FI’s “Sickle Cell Clinical Trials Newsletter” is a free newsletter consisting of aggregated research studies published by the U.S. National Institutes of Health through its online registry, www.clinicaltrials.gov.  The newsletter is self-updating and is accessible at www.midwestchild.com/sicklecelltrials.html.  No separate sign up or subscription is required to view the newsletter.  For convenience, you may bookmark the newsletter.

The MC&FI does not profit from the “Sickle Cell Clinical Trials Newsletter” or any images on its newsletter page and is hosting the feed on its web site for informational purposes only.  Also, the MC&FI does not endorse any of the research studies found in the database.  An individual’s participation in a study is that individual’s sole decision.
