Follow on Google News | Is hip bureaucrat-themed attire a contradiction in terms? You be the judge.Private sector designer and career civil servant team up to bring a new meaning to public-private partnerships and introduce a line of stylish apparel to office workers that are positively encouraging, derisively subversive, and perfectly ironic.
By: Bureaucratees The launch comes at an interesting time given that governments all over north America have been cutting jobs and many insiders cite that morale among civil servants is at an all time low. The company’s co-founder and lead designer Chris Pointer seems to think the timing couldn’t be better, “Government workers get beat up all the time. We thought it would be fun to help them change that by offering them a way to get out ahead of some of the stereotypes. Our designs literally give bureaucrats the opportunity to wear them on their chests under a blazer, on a casual Friday, or on a patio after work.” The company – which is backed by Pointer and career civil servant Nick Charney who ironically declined to comment – is conveniently located in Ottawa and Washington DC and bills itself as celebration of the fact that both private and public sector mentalities can work together, that they can be complementary, and that neither holds a monopoly on creativity or tedium. But will bureaucrats bite? According to Pointer, “We are really pleased with the reaction so far, it’s a really easy brand for people to get behind. We've put in a considerable amount of effort into both the design of the shop and the designs in the shop and I think it shows. The business isn't something we are taking lightly, despite all the fun we are having.” Bureaucratees (http://bureaucratees.com) is an online retailer specializing in apparel designed exclusively for office workers.
