Proper Swimming Pool Water Care: Is Cheaper Better?

As the summer season kicks into full effect, we have put together your complete guide to buying pool chemical in the greater Albany area. First, let’s take the “deep dive” into water care products, and why they are so important...

With all this hype about miniclips pool and virtual pool... where's the news about swimming pools? This is for all you pool owners out there looking to learn about pure vs. impure clorine.

The main chemical used in pool sanitation is chlorine. Chlorine kills unwanted bacteria, but if a diluted form is used, it can have negative effects on your pool. This is due in large part to how the elements that make up chlorine break down, a process during which bacteria is killed in the pool. These chemicals rid your pool of bacteria, but if not properly broken down, they can be detrimental rather than helpful. When filler is added to chlorine, it doesn't dissolve fully, but rather breaks into clumps and can erode your pool liner and decrease the life of your pool.

Pure chlorine, like that sold at http://www.alpinhaus.com, doesn't have any filler. It is 99% chlorine and 1% stabilizer. Some companies use fillers and binders that can be harmful to your pool in order to decrease their prices.  If there is anything other than chlorine and stabilizer in your water care product, it will have the negative affects mentioned previously on your pool liner.   Chlorine content is important, but there's always the matter of price.  In today's economy, we know that you want to get the most for your money, but spending less doesn't always mean that you're saving--expecially when it comes to a pool, a spa or a hot tub.  Buying inexpensive chlorine that has fillers and binders actually causes your pool to require more chlorine than using pure chlorine.  By spending an extra $10 or so now by purchasing pure chlorine, you won't need to buy as often and will inevitably save money (and your pool liner) in the long run.

We wanted to test this theory in the marketplace to see if it held true.  The following is a comparison between Alpin Haus and “a major big box retailer”. Remember: the longer your pool is in better condition... the longer you can host pool parties!
