United Methodist Church of Huntington-Cold Spring Harbor Presents “Laughter and Lyrics Too”

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - June 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Luonne Rouse, Pastor, United Methodist Church of Huntington-Cold Spring Harbor, has announced that “Laughter and Lyrics Too” for the Children of Huntington will take place on June 28 at the Huntington High School auditorium, located at 188 Oakwood Road (corner of Oakwood Road and McKay Road) in Huntington, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Men of the United Methodist Church of Huntington-Cold Spring Harbor.  
This event will feature actress and comedienne Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, who will be joined by the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble.

Ms. Stickney has been performing a series of engagements in the Brooklyn area since moving to Hollywood 20 years ago. As a comedienne, Ms. Stickney has appeared on BET’s “Comic View,” NBC’s “Showtime at the Apollo,” MyNetworkTV’s “The Tony Rock Project” and the Essence Music Festival. In addition, she has appeared in a number of films, including “New Jack City,” “Malcolm X,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “The Inkwell.” In addition, Ms. Stickney and her brother Timothy — best known for his role as R.J. Gannon in the soap opera “One Life to Live” — recently created a professional experimental theater company.

Ms. Stickney received numerous honors during her entertainment career, including Essence Magazine’s 25th Anniversary list of “one of 200 African-American women who has changed the world,” Custodian of the Cultural Consciousness Award from Chicago’s ETA Creative Arts Center, the Ellie Charles Artists Award from African Voices magazine, the African Jewel Award from African Focus Incorporated and induction into the Arkansas Hall of Fame. She has also performed with The National Black Theater Festival, The Shades of Black Theater Festival, The Urban World Film Festival, and The Pan-African Film Festival, among others.

“It is an honor to have a talented person such as Ms. Stickney perform at our church,” says Pastor Rouse. “Everyone will be entertained by her unique brand of thought-provoking humor. They will also enjoy the wonderful singing of the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble. This evening of humor and singing is sure to be special.”

“I am pleased to come to Long Island and present my outrageous brand of comedy,” Ms. Stickney says. “Those in attendance will not only hear the most talented musical act I have ever heard, but they will be in for one hilarious night of standup.”
