June , 2013: Lakheri Cement Works (LCW) has won the first ever Green Leaders award in the cement industry at the Frost & Sullivan’s Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2013, held at The Leela, Mumbai. The award was presented by Mr. Pradeep Banerjee, Executive Director- Supply Chain, Hindustan Unilever and was received by Director Plant, ACC LCW, Mr. Umesh Pratap.

Over the years, ACC has a consistent winning streak at the Frost & Sullivan’s Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards. This year in addition to winning the highest honor of, Green Leader, ACC Limited won five awards and three certificates under various categories. ACC Limited’s Plants at Chanda, Gagal and Wadi won the Challenger’s Award for Large Business whereas Sindri won the Challenger’s Award for Medium Business. Jamul, Kudithini and Thondebhavi bagged the merit certificate in the Aspirant Category.

The award aims to bring awareness among the manufacturing units across industry verticals, through best practices for establishing the ‘Green’ mindset in their business as a means to sustainable growth, by adopting 'Green Initiatives'. The prime focus for the award application was to show the initiatives adopted for green manufacturing and in a way that justifies investment in the same.

LCW has bagged this award due to its persistent green initiatives which include promoting green power by using wind energy and installing an energy efficient 7 stage Preheater, a first in India. The plant has also been applauded for its utilization of alternative fuel and raw materials to conserve natural resources such as coal and limestone and to dispose of, industrial wastes such as marble slurry, in an environment friendly manner.
