Afternoon of Art & Music on June 23 to Raise Funds for Cancer Patient

CARROLLTON, Texas - June 18, 2013 - PRLog -- A diagnosis of cancer is never good news. However, for some people the news gets worse – “there is no cure.” In 2012, Marty Manning learned he had a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer and heard those words.

But Marty Manning is a fighter, and he has learned just how many friends “Team Manning” has. A personalized treatment is available at Salem Oncology in Houston. Personalized isn’t standard, it’s not covered by insurance…and is always expensive.

To help the Mannings, friends and family have planned a Musical Extravaganza, Art Show and Silent Auction on Sunday, June 23, 2013, 3 PM, at Restoration Church, 4343 Sigma, Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75244, to raise funds. All proceeds will benefit the FPR Foundation and their support of Marty’s medical expenses.

The art show will feature a variety of oil paintings and prints from artists including Donald F. Mitchell, Ned White, Buck Taylor (of Gunsmoke fame), Don Whitlatch and Jan Mitchell. Guests will have a chance to bid on event tickets, travel and miscellaneous autographed items in the silent auction.

Andrey Ponochevny, Jim Harmon, Leslie Brown Bluhm and Debbie Ragsdale will entertain with a 90 minute concert.

Performers:

Andrey Ponochevny – pianist. Andrey is a winner of the William Kapell International Piano Competition and a bronze medalist of the Tchaikovsky International Competition. He will present classical works.

Jim Harmon – pianist, vocalist, SMU graduate with Piano Performance Degree. Jim has performed on the national television shows of Liberace, Johnny Carson and Mike Douglas. For the last several decades, he has served Metroplex churches in the Ministry of Music.  

Leslie Brown Bluhm – harpist. Leslie has performed throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a soloist, a chamber musician and with various performing arts organizations, including the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Garland/Las Colinas Symphonies and the Octavia Harp Ensemble.

Debbie Ragsdale – flutist. Debbie serves as principal flutist with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and appears frequently in both the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphonies. Currently she serves as president of the McKinney Musical Arts Society and on the board of the Texas Flute Society.

About Marty Manning: Marty has been diagnosed with Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Pancreas, a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. He has been told that there is no cure for this type of cancer. Marty’s family found Dr. Philip Salem in Houston, who has built a personalized treatment plan for this type of cancer. Marty and his wife have been to Houston for this treatment, which is not covered by insurance.

Marty grew up in Carrollton, Texas, and has worked as a store manager for various Kroger stores in the DFW area for over 25 years. He is married to Carrie, a teacher at McDonald Middle School in the Mesquite ISD, and has three children.
