By: Precision MMA This past weekend UFC 160 had a card featuring multiple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu masters who used various sorts of submissions to win their fights, all of which are taught at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley. Out of the twelve contests that night, nine of them ended with submission victories where opponents were forced to “tap out”. The martial art of BJJ includes three major types of submissions which are choke holds, arm locks and leg locks, all of which were used to win fights on this UFC card. The Hudson Valley’s Precision MMA insures that all our students know how to perform these maneuvers properly. We know that our instruction is legit because our head teacher Brian McLaughlin is himself a Mixed Martial Artist with a record of 6-2 whose black belt lineage can be traced back to the famous Royce Gracie. The first fight of the night at UFC 160 ended with one of the most impressive concession holds which was a knee lock used by Antonio Braga Neto to finish his opponent Anthony Smith. Quite a few, in fact, perhaps most Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools, do not teach leg locks out of fear of the students injuring each other. This stems from the belief that leg locks are more hazardous than other submissions, but this belief is false and we at Precision in the Hudson Valley are a step above these schools since we offer instruction in this area. As the card progressed, Brazilian Caio Maghalaes used a rear naked choke to tap out Czechoslovakian Karlos Vemola. This is one of the most common techniques in Brazil Jiu-Jitsu and we teach it in detail at Precision MMA. In fact, our instructor Brian McLaughlin used this same sub to win two of his MMA fights. In a later bout, Raphael Assuncao caught his opponent Vaughan Lee in an armlock, another move taught at Precision and used by McLaughlin to win one of his fights. Then Rony Mariano Bezera put fighter Mike Wilkinson to sleep with a triangle choke, which is a move all Precision students are proficient at, and which McLaughlin used to win three of his fights. Another sort of choke called an “arm-triangle” Not all martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools are created equal and you will not find these same techniques used at UFC 160 taught just anywhere. But fear not, you can learn all of these submission holds from the very best at Precision MMA in the Hudson Valley.
