This Kindle Fire HD 8.9" is my 2nd Kindle Fire. My first was the 7" Kindle Fire released Xmas 2011. I wanted a larger screen, better speakers and volumes, higher resolution, bluetooth capability, and HDMI feature. What I did not get was better speakers. I see no improvement in quality or volume over my standard 7" Kindle. When I try to watch Showtime, especially, the volume is so low I have to practically lay my head on the tablet. HBO, not so bad; however, nothing like I expected. The Weather Channel was a real upset for me because the wonderful version I had for free on my small Kindle 7" is not duplicated on the 8.9" size Kindle. I absolutely do not like the larger Kindle's weather and I had tried several Apps and even purchased some. I miss the old Weather App. Also, I bought the larger memory Kindle Fire 8.9" because watching videos was going to be important and I did not want "streaming issues" like on the smaller Kindle. I purchased gold ends, high quality HDMI cable in 10 foot length for around $55.00 to connect from my Kindle Fire 8.9" to my HD television in order to view videos from Amazon and from Showtime or HBO Go. I am a DirectTV subscriber and was thrilled to see these Apps on the Kindle available. I plugged everything up and the video came on the screen for about 10 seconds and went off with a message that Showtime and HBO do not support HDMI from my particular device. WHAT? I AM UPSET. What if I don't always want to sit in my recliner and watch the video on the Kindle for 180 minutes? Why bother to promote HDMI if I can't use it for all videos unless I am purchasing a movie from Amazon. Streaming videos of interest to me onto my HD television was a strong reason for upgrading to a much more expensive Kindle Fire.
