PIERRE, S.D. - June 13, 2013 - PRLog -- SD Short Film “Paper People” to Screen at Palm Springs ShortFest

Although Pierre, SD, may be over a thousand miles away from Palm Springs, CA, the distance didn’t prevent South Dakota-based short film Paper People from earning a chance to screen at this year’s Palm Springs ShortFest. Filmed entirely during the spring of 2012 in Pierre, SD, Paper People will show at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, CA, on June 21, 2013, as part of the Changing Lanes program of the festival.

A Schuetzle Company Production, Paper People tells the story of four lives intersecting over the course of 24 hours in a remote motel and the events that take place as a result of those intersections. According to director Andrew Kightlinger, the film itself is a story of hope.

“People feed on hope—and this film aims to serve that hope in heaping portions,” Kightlinger said. “We are absolutely elated to be bringing Paper People to an eager, wider audience, especially at such a prestigious event.”

Now in its 19th year, the Palm Springs ShortFest will showcase 330 films, including 70 World Premieres, 55 North American Premieres and 14 U.S. Premieres. As an Academy-qualifying festival, first place winners in four categories will automatically become eligible for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for a possible Academy Award nomination.

“Attending Palm Springs is an opportunity to cultivate relationships with filmmakers on a global scale,” Kightlinger said. “This is a huge festival for us and it is a little daunting. As South Dakotans, we've done half the job of standing out, but we must also represent South Dakota in a way that reflects our artistic ‘oomph’ and driven work ethic.”

Another Schuetzle Company Production (and South Dakota-based film), Dust of War, recently screened at the Cannes Film Market and is currently seeking domestic and international distribution.

Paper People is directed by Andrew Kightlinger and stars Steven Luke, Desire Jansen, Kevin Kunkel, and Olivia Coon. The film will screen at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, CA.
