Dental Law Partnership Helps Client Win £40,000 in Dental Negligence Claim

The client, a 36 year old woman from the North West, received the sum in an out of court settlement after her dentist admitted liability for a number of breaches of duty, beginning in 2002. When the woman first visited the dentist in question she had been concerned about the gaps in her teeth following the earlier loss of two pre molars; and a recurring click in her jaw.

Her dentist recommended orthodontic work to move her jaw, and an implant treatment to fill the gaps. Over the course of two years, the patient underwent a number of procedures, including the removal of 4 wisdom teeth and the application of braces, elastic bands and retainers. But after visiting another dentist, the woman discovered that spaces had been created between the wrong teeth, and that her wisdom teeth had been removed despite showing no symptoms. In addition the original dentist had provided inappropriate orthodontic treatment for the minor click in her jaw.

As a result, she now requires further remedial treatment, which includes the provision of 4 implants and crowns.

Whilst the dentist responsible admitted liability, he denied advising the patient that the click in her jaw could be fixed with orthodontic treatment.  But the Dental Law Partnership were still able to help their client to claim compensation for dental negligence.
