Follow on Google News | Jordan Credit Union Donates $7,000 in Scholarships to Promising Middle School GraduatesIn an effort to help hardworking students in Utah communities find success through higher education, Jordan Credit Union has donated scholarships to students from 13 local middle schools.
By: Red Olive Jordan Credit Union (JCU) recently visited many local middle schools to award graduating 9th grade students with scholarships totaling $7,000. The schools used their own criteria to select the recipients of these scholarships. This year, Jordan Credit Union also provided additional scholarships to the schools in the Canyons School District due to the recent change with their 8th graders moving into high school along with the 9th graders. The scholarship funds are placed into a savings account from which purchases made for college are reimbursed to the student. The funds will earn interest until the recipient begins college. What schools were involved? These scholarships were dispersed throughout middle schools within the cities of Jordan Credit Union’s branch locations. The financial institution aimed to reach as many schools as possible within these areas in an effort to give more hardworking students the opportunity to start building a stronger academic future. Scholarships were awarded to students from the following schools: Elk Ridge, Fort Herriman, Joel P. Jensen, Oquirrh Hills, South Hills, South Jordan, Sunset Ridge, West Hills, Crescent View, Eastmont, Midvale, Mount Jordan and Valley. What are JCU’s plans for future involvement? Jordan Credit Union makes the donation of scholarships to local schools an annual event. They are heavily invested in the future and well-being of the community and make an effort to contribute when possible. Next year’s scholarships will be awarded at this same time to the promising 8th (Canyons School District) and 9th grade students of 2014. Their goals for this program include: · Providing promising youth with increased drive and ambition for their academic future. · Helping young students develop increased understanding of financial saving and interest. · Giving hardworking students the opportunity to take their education beyond high school to achieve greater knowledge and success for their futures. · Building stronger communities that support and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of their students. Ultimately, JCU’s middle school scholarship program is anticipated to build a brighter future for the hardworking students in our local communities.
