CHICAGO - June 11, 2013 - PRLog -- The Millennium Fine Art Gallery has extended the exhibit of fine art photography and digital art of Karen I. Hirsch for another month. The show titled “Shape, Rattle & Roll” is running until the end of June 2013. The gallery is located at 8 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 2103, Chicago, IL.

"Shape, Rattle & Roll," features abstract artwork with the common denominator of form and texture. Brilliant color characterizes much of this work. The images originate from photography and from digital art. The artist blends the two media together in some of the collages in the exhibit. The pictures, whether made in camera or in computer, exhibit balance in composition, yet simultaneously give a sense of movement – like musical rhythm.

These images are a departure from Hirsch's photojournalistic images. A Chicago Tribune article called her “Chicago's documentarian” when she had a solo exhibit in 2003, “My Chicago” which included more than 200 images of Chicago's people, places and events. Hirsch studied with renowned photographers Ernst Haas, Jay Maisel and Arnold Newman. She learned digital painting from English-born artist Jeremy Sutton.

The exhibition unveiling these abstract images was prompted by the death of the artist's mother, Anita Hirsch, last fall. This is personal work that Karen I. Hirsch only shared with her. Anita Hirsch was also an artist who painted brightly colored contemporary canvasses. The exhibit, “Shape, Rattle & Roll,” honors her memory.

About the artist:
Karen I. Hirsch is an award-winning visual artist based in Chicago. Her sense of color and design is evident in her photography and abstract digital paintings. The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Illinois Arts Council awarded her with art grants. In 2007, the Government of China honored Hirsch by inviting her to be one of ten foreign photographers to document the city of Rizhao. Hirsch’s work has been published in books, magazines, and newspapers including the Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Magazine, Communication Arts and Graphis photo annuals.

Hirsch is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and immediate past president of Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum. Her prints are found in corporate and private collections.
