Lemon Law Helps Thousands with Bad Cars

Lemon law claims are more common than ever. The law helps people whose vehicles don’t work as advertised to get money back. Experts say the recession and auto industry crisis caused this trend.

LOS ANGELES - June 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Government officials across the nation are recommending the “lemon law” to consumers whose vehicles don’t work as advertised. With little money coming in for automakers, who have struggled since the auto industry collapse, quality checks are worse and more vehicles have problems than before. New and used car salesmen are also hit by the recession, and many are cheating their customers by selling defective cars.

Lemon law attorneys have succeeded in recovering millions of dollars for those who have this problem. Each state has its own version of the lemon law. In California, a strong lemon law is in place. Law firms such as O’Connor and Mikhov LLP have won hundreds of cases for clients. Analysts have praised the government for stepping in and helping the consumer by advocating the lemon law.

A lemon law attorney can often finish a lemon law case more quickly than other lawsuits. The amount of money won can even exceed the cost of the car and the cost of the client’s transportation problems. Officials predict that the popularity of the lemon law, and the need for it, will continue until the economy fully recovers. Even then, we may see a lot of bad products from new and used car salesmen, until the market “flushes out” the defective cars and business practices of the recession.

The lemon law applies to any car purchased under warranty. It does not matter whether the car was purchased used or new. Any major or moderate problems with the car may qualify it as a “lemon” for the lemon law. The law varies by state, but each state has some version of the law. The busiest cities with the highest traffic have experienced the most problems. These include New York, New Jersey, California, and others. Officials recommend checking with a local lemon law attorney for more information.
