The largest annual wheelchair sporting event in the world, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is celebrating its 33rd year, requires at least a year or more of preparation by those involved, and draws more than 500 veterans to compete against peers according to individual experience and ability in wheelchair sports. This year’s theme is “Seize the Day in Tampa Bay”. Morgan is competing in Bowling, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Softball, 100 Meter Track, while Young will be facing competition in Quad Weightlifting and Field events. Both men will also participate in the Slalom. Other competitions featured include archery, swimming, quad rugby and more. The Games are open to all Veterans with spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions, amputations or other injuries that impair mobility, who use wheelchairs for sports competition. Presented each year by Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Department of Veterans Affairs, this year’s week long games will be hosted by the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital and the Florida Gulf Coast PVA chapter, assisted by more than 3,000 local volunteers. Both Morgan and Young are members of the Southeastern Paralyzed Veterans Team.
