PRLog -- MANA de San Diego was founded in 1986 and has more than 2,000 supporters. In 1987, MANA de San Diego launched the Hermanitas program and has served more than 650 Latinas to date. The New York Life Community Impact Grant will support the Hermanitas Youth Leadership Mentor Program which encourages Latinas, grade 7 through 12, to graduate high school and pursue higher education through a one-on-one mentorship. It is the largest program of its kind in San Diego County and exposes the students to career paths in science, technology; math; engineering;
education; the environment;
along with leadership development;
personal growth and college readiness skills. “MANA de San Diego is the preeminent organization in San Diego where young Latinas are exposed to the region’s best thinking on education and leadership,”
said Tony Montalvo, managing partner of New York Life’s San Diego General Office. “This Community Impact Grant was given in recognition of one of our agents, Betty Ljungquist for her commitment to improving our local community. We are pleased that this grant will support the organization’
s mission to empower the next generation of Latina Leaders."
