Best Selling Author Honored by Hermits

"Quiet" author receives hermit organization's first ever book award.
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- National Hermit Week today announced Susan Cain as its 2013 Hermits’ Choice Book Award recipient. Cain is author of the New York Times best-seller Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking.

"Wow, I love this! So touching,” wrote Cain when she first learned of her award. Consistent with the behind-the-scenes approach of National Hermit Week, Ms. Cain is receiving her award quietly at an address she provided. The award, the first ever presented by the hermits’ organization, is given to Cain for her “significant contribution to societal thought concerning the benefits of hermiting (solitude seeking),” says the letter accompanying the award.

"Susan Cain’s efforts harmonize with the aims of National Hermit Week which encourage the taking of time for solitary pursuits which we call ‘hermiting’,” says Dr. Eleece Jel, National Hermit Week Founder. “Cain is inspiring to those who have long felt penalized for being quiet in their approach which makes them different, not less worthy to an enterprise or society at large. Our award is meant to encourage her and other authors who are re-awakening the world to the value of solitude and its many benefits to those who incorporate it into their lives if not already so oriented.”

Cain, a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, practiced corporate law for seven years before becoming a negotiations consultant and then an author. Her book, Quiet, demonstrates that introverted people can participate meaningfully in any endeavor when not required to deviate greatly from their natural inclinations. Her book was launched in 2012 and has remained on the New York Times best-seller list ever since. It is recognized for an enlightening and research-based assessment of introversion.
