Bishop Ricky Sinclair Talks About Father’s Day

No matter what kind of father you had, you can receive something positive out of it. You may ask how with the fathers who were addicts or abusers. The way they acted showed you how not to be.

BAKER, La. - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- The idea of Father’s Day was conceived by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm.

A day in June was chosen for the first Father’s Day celebration—June 19, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane’s mayor because it was the month of William Smart’s birth.

The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent. (http://www.livescience.com/814-father-day-origin-facts.html)

We all have a father that we can turn to. A father that has never left us or forsake us. Those that have the unfortunate circumstance of being abandoned by their biological father or maybe even abused, still have one they can call Father. God waits on us to turn to Him. He is the perfect father and one that all men should model themselves after.

In Deuteronomy 1:29-31 states, “Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place." This scripture clearly shows how God is there for each one of us. It can give us a knowing of how God will fight for us and that there is nothing for us to fear.

“Every generous act of giving and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father who made the heavenly lights, in whom there is no inconsistency or shifting shadow,” James 1:17. What more can you ask for? A Father who stays consistent, never changing, and always giving good and perfect gifts for us. This does not mean He will give us a million dollars, or that we will live life without trauma or pain. What it does mean, is that God the Father is always there and gives us what we NEED not always what we want.

Some would say that God dealt them a bad hand. The fact is, that God knew whatever you went through, or are going to go through, that you are strong enough to deal with it and make it through. Every situation that happens in life can be used as a testimony about how you made it out. We all look at the hero’s story and how great he is, but in fact, you are a hero in your own life.

Our fathers here on earth taught the boys how to be men. You may have had a father that played sports with you, or one that taught you how to work on a car, you may have one that just poured hours of wisdom into through long lectures, or you may have had a father who was an alcoholic or drug addict, you may even have had one that abused or molested you. No matter what kind of father you had, you can receive something positive out of it. You may ask how with the fathers who were addicts or abusers. The way they acted showed you how not to be. You have personal experience of who it affects you. The abused or neglected child can grow up to be a compassionate adult who can show more love to the abused children because of the empathy that they can feel.

Our fathers should be the example of a good husband to their daughters. Fathers should adore their daughters and let them know what true love is. When a father is missing in a girl’s life, many times they look for love from a man that they desire from their father. It becomes a misguided love.

A father is so important in the family. He is the spiritual head and the backbone for the family. He is the security for the family. He is the provider. When a father is absent in the family, there are many components missing to function properly. It does not mean that a family can’t make it, it just makes it difficult.

Do not let your bad circumstance mold you to be a cold, bitter individual. Instead turn to the Father above who awaits you with His arms wide open to show you a love that no man could ever give.

Joshua 1:9 ...”Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”. God is always with us and gives us the perfect example of a good father. He is one who watches over us, disciplines us, defends us, dotes over us, He loves us unconditionally.

“I had an alcoholic father growing up and I have forgiven him and learned many things from him. Instead of being bitter and holding resentment against my father or God for the struggles I went through, I was able to channel that energy into helping others who struggle with identity issues or rejection issues or substance abuse issues. I use my life to counsel others through their times of struggle. When I reached out to God in that jail cell, he reached down and held me and filled me with all the love I had been denied from my earthly father. Through Christ I learned how to be a good father to my children and a husband to my wife. God gave me another opportunity in life and I have never looked back. I love the Lord and through His Word, I have learned to love and live a life pleasing to Him, states Bishop Ricky Sinclair. (http://www.rickysinclair.com)
