City of Hamilton's Newest Infrastructure System Ties in all Public Asset Networks

Intergraph® technology provides integrated approach and streamlines workflow

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 3, 2013 – The City of Hamilton in Ontario, Canada, has implemented the latest generation of its decision support system for asset management. The Integrated Right-of-Way Infrastructure Support System (IRISS) provides a spatial and integrated approach to identify and coordinate capital water, sewer, and road projects.

IRISS addresses the city's capital planning infrastructure and management needs. The integrated approach ensures that potential capital projects, and their included assets, are reviewed and approved by all necessary stakeholders before the projects are officially initiated.

"Considering the close proximity and high level of interaction between infrastructure networks, asset management best practices recommend an integrated approach in order to make the most cost-effective decisions regarding rehabilitation and replacement of infrastructure assets", said John Murray, manager of asset management, Public Works Department, City of Hamilton. "The city was not unique in that individual infrastructure networks were managed independently in the past. IRISS allows us to now make smart decisions in an integrated and coordinated approach for the long term."

IRISS is built on Intergraph®'s GeoMedia® and Solution Modex Inc.'s InfraModex. IRISS allows the prioritization of linear assets within right-of-way to enable decision-making policies that take into account asset service levels and financial risks. The system also maintains the inventory of these assets, organizes all right-of-way needs into coordinated projects, determines cost estimates, and provides optimized infrastructure programs.

The City of Hamilton will present IRISS on June 5 at this year's HxGN LIVE, Hexagon's Annual Conference.
