BURR RIDGE, Ill. - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Burr Ridge Dental Practice Consultants are offering their advice for tornado safety, as the dangerous storm season is set to begin on June 1st. Sadly, we have already had a destructive tornado season. We encourage individuals and businesses to safeguard themselves against natural disasters by taking a few simple steps.

Create a Backup Set of Records Electronically

Keep a set of backup records in a safe place. The backup should be stored away from the original set.

Keeping a backup set of records –– including, for example, bank statements, tax returns, insurance policies, etc. –– is easier now that many financial institutions provide statements and documents electronically, and much financial information is available on the Internet. Even if the original records are provided only on paper, they can be scanned into an electronic format. With documents in electronic form, they can be downloaded to a backup storage device, like an external hard drive, or burnt to a CD or DVD.  Better yet, save them to a cloud.  http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing/cloud-storage.htm

Document Valuable

Most everyone has a smart phone or video camera which is a great tool.  To prepare for disaster, photograph or videotape the contents of your business and home, especially items of higher value like equipment, artwork or jewelry. The IRS has a disaster loss workbook, Publication 584 (http://links.govdelivery.com/track?type=click&enid=ZW...), which can help individuals compile a room-by-room list of belongings.

A photographic record can help an individual prove the market value of items for insurance and casualty loss claims. Photos should be stored with a friend or family member who lives outside the area or again on a cloud.

Update Emergency Plans

Office and Home emergency plans should be reviewed annually. Personal and business situations change over time, as do preparedness needs. When employers hire new employees or when a company or organization changes functions, plans should be updated accordingly and employees should be informed of the changes.

About Professional Practice Consultants

Professional Practice Consultants, Inc., or PPC as it is widely known, was formed in 2000, the vision of Daniel Welch and Lori Stadler.  Having worked with dentists in excess of 10 years at that point as a partner and a manager at a larger accounting firm, they recognized a void in the dental industry. Our specialization allows us to better serve our clients because we are intimately familiar with dental practice operations and the challenges that practices face in today’s business environment.
