LOS ANGELES - June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- History’s first-ever timed noseriding competition in which men and women compete as equals for cash and prizes will take place “On One Perfect Day” in October 2013 at Malibu’s legendary Surfrider Beach.

The Malibu Noseriding Championship will bring together sixty-four of the world’s best longboard surfers to compete for “most time on the nose” in an objectively timed event. The event will raise funds and awareness for the Santa Monica Bay and Malibu Beach watershed ecosystem—once a pristine environment named “Malibu” by the region’s first inhabitants, the Chumash.

The event is likely to attract some of surfing’s best, including Taylor Jensen (reigning men’s world longboard champion), Kelia “Sister” Moniz (reigning women’s world longboard champion), Belinda Baggs, Rachel Barry, Duane Desoto (2010 men’s world longboard champion), Vince Felix, Alex Knost, brothers Chad and Trace Marshall, Kassia Meador,  Coline Ménard, Carissa Moore, CJ Nelson, Andy Nieblas, Cori Schumacher, Joel Tudor, Christian Wach, Tyler Warren, Chelsea Williams, Hiroka Yoshikawa, and many others.

The Malibu Noseriding Championship will benefit three local nonprofits: Eco-Malibu, whose mission is to restore and protect the lower Malibu Creek watershed and historical wetlands of Malibu; the Bay Restoration Foundation, working to restore and enhance the Santa Monica Bay through actions that improve water quality, conserve and rehabilitee natural resources, and protect the Bay’s benefits and values; and the Surfing Heritage and Cultural Center, dedicated to preserving, presenting and promoting surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations.

Already the event has generated significant online buzz—100,000 organic views on its Facebook page the first month alone--and attracted three major media and in-kind sponsors: Surfline.com, the world’s #1 surf tracking site, which will cross-promote and webcast the event live; GoPro, the world’s most versatile camera, which is giving away cameras and promoting the event on its website; and Outside TV, broadcast arm of Outside magazine and the only national programming network dedicated to the active outside lifestyle, will also webcast the live event.

The Malibu Noseriding Championship is the brainchild of surfing greats Bob Purvey, (1979 Nose-riding champion), Tom Morey (creator of the first professional surf contest for timed nose riding, in 1965), Mickey (“Mongoose”) Munoz, Tak Kawahara (who popularized surfing in Japan), Paul Strauch (“the gentleman surfer” who rode with Duke Kahanamoku and won many titles, including 1984 Hawaii Men’s Nose-riding Champion), Lance Carson (ranked #2, behind David Nuuhiwa, on a 1965 Surfer magazine list of the world’s ten best nose-riders), Henry Ford (Hermosa Beach Surfer's Walk of Fame), Don Hamilton, long-time surfer and social media guru, and Erich Lyttle, multiple award-winning sports documentary filmmaker. In addition to generating immediate enthusiasm for noseriding and awareness and funds for watershed restoration, a documentary on the event will sustain awareness and enthusiasm.

Malibu Noseriding Championship is a production of Bob Purvey Productions and Eray Motion Media. Sponsorship opportunities are available. For information, contact Erich Lyttle at Eray Motion Media, eraymotion@gmail.com.
