Salem First Coalition Announces Non-Partisan Website for Salem Voter Awareness

Community Leaders Unite to Create Credible Space for Political News, Polling and More

SALEM, Mass. - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- (SALEM, MASS.) Non-partisan local political group, Salem First Coalition, announced today their full reveal of the months-long effort to design an online engagement platform to keep Salem voter’s informed on local issues, candidate profiles, registration information, voting deadlines and more, in a one-stop hub at the newly revealed domain: salemfirst.org

Founder Christopher Sicuranza spearheaded the project after meeting with various elected officials, candidates, community leaders and voters whom desired a more engaging website with information relevant to local politics within Salem, but without the typical negative comment encouragement as found on other websites in the community.

“The idea is simple: let’s put the city ahead of our own personal agendas; let’s put Salem first,” said Christopher Sicuranza, founder/spokesman of Salem First Coalition. “The team of people involved in putting Salem First together are interested in getting the Salem voters more awareness on issues and candidates than ever before. It’s a true reflection of how a community can team together and provide solutions in a modern way.”

Sicuranza is no stranger to community building. As a co-founder of local LGBT initiative Go Out Loud, and an outspoken Salem activist who had entered his name for consideration as interim Councillor At-Large position as vacated by the now State Senator Joan Lovely, the twenty-nine year old takes pride in his efforts to unify the city.

Managing both the meetings and the website, Sicuranza claims that introducing the concept to some of the older members of the Salem elected officials was “challenging, but equally rewarding,” he quickly states, “this site is for all of Salem, no matter the background. Everyone running this autumn will have the same profile page, indifferent to his or her online skills. This is truly an equitable project.”

All traits and ideals not lost on the tech-savvy Ward 5 City Councillor Josh Turiel, who was attracted to the project because of the wide-scope of its nature. “I'm really excited about the Salem First project and the work they are doing to try and educate voters honestly and expand the playing field,” said Turiel. “It's been an honor and a pleasure to be able to help support this effort and I look forward to seeing other candidates embrace and help with it as they move forward.”

About Salem First:

Initially assembled in early 2013, Salem First Coalition invited various community members to meetings to discuss better education, outreach and communication for the city of Salem, devoid of partisan attacks and to encourage an even platform for the electorate education on a simple, engaging website that would host information on news, important dates, polling locations, candidate profiles, social media links and general contact information. Salem First Coalition does not endorse candidates, but welcomes any activist member or political candidate of the community to submit relevant information for posting to their website via the Salem First contact page.
