Protect Your Investment in Custom Made Footwear

HOUSTON - June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Custom boots are an investment and need proper care to protect your investment.  Mike Kuykendall, owner of Tejas Custom Boots and master craftsman explains proper care of custom cowboy boots.

Kuykendall said, “One good way of looking like this is to treat your custom boots is to give them the same care you would give your skin.  This may be a little exaggeration, but not much.”

He continued, “Clean the boots at the end of the day.  Dirt and dust act like micro sandpaper and will scar the leather.  Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth.  Condition them regularly with a lanolin based conditioner.  Try to avoid oil based conditioners as they can clog the pores and stiffen and dry out the leather.”

For polishing he suggests using a cream polish, as heavy wax polish has the same drawback as oil based conditioners.  Kuykendall noted, “For some exotic leather boots, such as rattlesnake, you should not polish them at all.  Use the cream conditioner and always spread it on in the direction of the scales.”

Kuykendall noted that the craftsmanship that goes into fine custom footwear is meant to deliver a product that will last for years, and when they are purchased, the owner can best serve his investment, the artistry of the product by taking a small amount of time and a little care.
