By: PS Racing Last Friday, Jeff cashed in on his reward with a solid first day in the Formula Renault at ZIC. The Hong Kong expat from England, who has some various touring car experience from both the UK and the Zhuhai International Circuit [ZIC] in China, adjusted quickly to the Formula Renault 2.0 of PS Racing at ZIC. In the first session, with speed-limited throttle to ease the adjustment to the car, Jeff still managed a 1:49.1, a very respectable laptime. After showing he was well able to handle the Formula Renault 2.0, Ovens moved up to the Formula Renault’s full 200hp for the second session and clocked a solid 1.45.3. Jeff remarked that the Formula Renault 2.0 was much more of a direct and responsive feel than touring cars, and that he felt much more challenged in the formula. It was Ovens’ first day in a formula car, though he had prior limited experience at Zhuhai Circuit testing the Renault Clio. The Cathay Pacific engineer plans to head back to PS Racing soon to keep refining his technique in the same car that took F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen directly to Formula One. Congratulations to Jeff Ovens on not only winning the Pan Delta Race Night prize, but also having a very successful test day and first-ever day behind the wheel of the advanced Formula Renault 2.0.
