Follow on Google News | The First Annual National Father Daughter DanceFatherhood organizations from New York, Charlotte, Dallas, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Miami & Washington, D.C. have joined together and worked collaboratively to create the First Annual National Father Daughter Dance.
By: Real Dads Network The National Father Daughter Dance truly captures the essence of the important role fathers play in the healthy development of their daughters. Every little girl needs her mom, but the comfort, security and love of a dad is important as well in teaching her how to nurture and build relationships with men. “As the primary male role model, fathers influence their daughters in profound ways—from how they see themselves, to what they come to expect from men, and the world at large,” states Derek Phillips, Founder & Executive Director of Real Dads® Network. “In short, a daughter’s self-concept as a female, and woman, is largely shaped by the relationship she has with her father”, according to Philip Jackson, Executive Director of the Black Star. It is our belief that children do better, both developmentally and in attainment of life opportunities, when both parents are actively involved in their parenting, regardless of the marital or living circumstances. It is also our belief that healthy, functional black families create stronger communities and a stronger, more resilient society.
