Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Pal-GHK  palmitoylated matriknes peptide in ICONIC Ultimate Anti-aging Skin Preserver supports the activation of the cutaneous repair process, promotes wrinkle smoothing and improves tone and elasticity.  Previous uncontrolled studies with topical treatment with Ultimate Anti-aging Skin Preserver cream indicate a beneficial effect on photoaging skin.

OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a cream containing 8% Pal-GHK peptide showed any advantages concerning a number of the criteria associated with aging of the facial skin, compared with an identical cream without Pal-GHK.

MATERIAL AND METHODS:

Thirty-three women, mean age 54.4 years, were included in this controlled study. After randomization half the face was treated twice daily for 12 weeks with the ICONIC Ultimate Anti-aging Skin Preserver cream and the other half with the control cream. The following methods of assessment were used: self-evaluation by the test subjects, clinical evaluation, photographic evaluation and laser profilometry. Profilometry was performed before the start of treatment and at the end.

RESULTS:

All four methods of assessment showed a statistically significant improvement on the (ICONIC UAASP) Pal-GHK treated half of the face. Laser profilometry, the most objective method used, showed an average decrease in mean depth of wrinkles of 50.8% (44.9-54.0) on the ICONIC treated, compared with 22.7% (16.4-28.7) on the placebo-treated half of the face P < 0.001 (Wilcoxon matched pairs test).

CONCLUSIONS:

It is indicated that 12 weeks of treatment with a cream containing 8% Pal-GHK improves clinical characteristics related to photoageing of facial skin.  

•  Subjects reported 94% improved appearance in skin tone and smoothness in 7 days increasing progressively over the 12 week trial.

• Subjects reported 97% overall satisfaction at weeks 4, 8 and 12.

• Subjects reported the product significantly improved the appearance of wrinkles and fines lines at four weeks, with benefits increasing progressively over the 12 week trial.
