In addition, customers may purchase a bag of seeds to benefit the tornado victims on the company’s website. For every bag of 10 seeds sold, the company will donate $2.00 directly to the American Red Cross. Many of the seeds are glazed in the same color of blue featured on the state’s flag, to honor the state’s resilience and its community spirit in the wake of the storm.
“We want to do our part to help bring smiles back to the faces of the thousands of people affected by this disaster,” said Mark Borella, founder of Seeds of Happiness. “By supporting the relief efforts of the American Red Cross, as well as distributing seeds throughout their community, we are hoping to bring a bit of happiness back to those whose lives have been forever changed.”

From its inception, giving back to the community has been a core value of Seeds of Happiness. The company, based in Kirkwood, Mo., has partnered with a number of charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, Dawson’s Hairless Heroes, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Shriners Hospital for Children, Melanoma Society and Williams Syndrome Association on specialty seeds.
“Seeds of Happiness started out as leftover lumps of clay I made into little smiles to give out to friends who were going through hard times and needed a little smile,” said Borella. “That was in 2006. Since then I have given out tens of thousands of smiles to folks, a handful at a time. In turn, they share them and their story with friends from around the globe in need of a smile.”
