NEW BERN, N.C. - May 28, 2013 - PRLog -- The largest nonprofit awards program for independent authors and publishers just named Forgiving Waters the winner of the First Novel category for 2013. On May 29, author Kenneth Capps will proudly accept another award for his debut book.

Capps will travel to New York City to accept the first place award presented by the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The official reception awards ceremony will take place on May 29 at the Harvard Club in midtown.

“I'm as lucky as a hound dog living at a sausage plant,” says Capps, who is excited about this new prize for his riveting read set in rural Texas.

Following the reception, Capps will make an appearance at Book Expo America (BEA), North America’s largest publishing event, on May 30. Booksellers, reviewers, educators, and librarians attending the expo can meet Capps at 11:00 a.m. on May 30 and receive a signed copy of his book at booth 1215. Forgiving Waters will also be on display at the BEA New Title Showcase in the Javits Center Lobby.

Forgiving Waters explores the relationships of two middle school students finding their way in an adult world. The everyday speech and a common sense approach to life become brilliant revelations to entertain and stimulate readers. Penned with healing in mind, the book offers a story of reconciliation and repair, revealing new insight to classic coping mechanisms to disarm bullies.

“This book embodies strong social themes that are important for our young people to discuss and consider from different perspectives. It shows how real adults act in tough situations even as they pass racism and bullying through generations,” said teacher Mr. Daniel Weddle, a language arts teacher at Arapahoe Charter School who uses the book in his class. “I’m hoping the students get more out of reading this book and can relate it to their own actions and decisions. It gives them the opportunity to step back and evaluate from a different perspective.”

Forgiving Waters is available in both hardcover (http://www.shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com/Forgiving-Wate...) and paperback (http://shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com/Forgiving-Waters-P...) through BQB’s online store, Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Forgiving-Waters-Kenneth-L-Capps/dp...), Barnes & Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/forgiving-waters-capps/1110009488), and bookstores across the nation. About Author Kenneth L. Capps (http://bqbpublishing.com/authors/kenneth_l_capps/)

From growing up in Texas, to his entrepreneurial endeavors in North Carolina, to entering writing contests for validation, Capps is a down-to-earth, regular kind of guy who made a dream reality. He is well spoken and engaging.

Born in Houston, Capps joined the US Marine Corps in 1979 for thirteen years, started a tree removal company, and has pulled himself through the mire of some tough relationships. His stories are raw and brutal.

In 2009, Capps won honorable mention in nonfiction in the New Bern Literary Symposium in North Carolina. The next year, in 2010, he placed second in fiction in the same contest. His writing career started at fifty years of age in what he considers to be the best years of his life. The only reason he entered the contests was to prove that he possessed the talent to write and verify what his friends were telling him. Upon publication, his book received the highest rating (Five Stars) from Readers Favorite. He was a finalist in the General Fiction category of the Readers Favorite Awards and earned honorable mention in Southern Fiction.
