May 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The battery icon on my Dell Precision M6700 is flashing red and then blue. I've tried taking the charger out and just running on battery but it keeps flashing. I've turned it off, let the battery drain a little and left it without charging for a day but after a while the flashing starts again. Is there a problem with it?
Solution 1:
"1. Let the Precision M6700 battery run completely dead. (Make sure all your work is saved)

2. Fully charge battery (You may still have flashing lights but if you turn your computer on and enter BIOS you can see the charge level)

3. Once again run battery dead.

4. Remove battery and wait 5-10 minutes.

5. Replace battery for dell laptop and use in normal operation.

This worked for me.
Also a note on why it sometimes does not fix even with a new battery. It seems that the battery is holding a charge but the level indicator is not properly communicating with the computer, therefore getting an error code. If you purchased a new laptop battery, this process should clear the error.
Hope all works out for everyone."

Solution 2:"Amber-amber-amber-amber-green is a temporary battery failure code. It is usually caused by high temperature (either the battery or laptop are too hot) If this code persists, you most likely have either a bad battery, bad battery charge card (in the laptop) or bad brick (AC adapter)

Make sure you have a good connection at the power cord (where it plugs into the laptop) these things wear out over time and a short/bad connection could also throw the code.

I'd start by trying a new dell xps 13 battery, you don't have to buy it from Dell (despite what they may lead you to believe) They all use 18650 cells with charge protection, most are the exact same as Dell's but with a generic label. There are plenty of reputable aftermarket battery manufacturers out there, some offer up to 2yr warranties (Dell's are 1yr) and may offer higher mAh ratings (for longer run times)

If you've recently replaced your battery for dell Precision M4700 you may need to recalibrate the system. Dell has some model specific programs to do this, but the easiest way I've found is to charge the battery overnight (don't worry if it doesn't read 100% the first time) and run the computer until the battery goes completely dead (turn off critical hibernate/standby settings) this usually needs to be done at least two times.

I used a video compression/conversion program to tax the CPU at 100% to make things go quicker and set the system to run in "maximum performance" mode to keep the CPU at top speed."
