The Tannie Awards
PARIS - May 26, 2013 - PRLog -- The first annual Tannie Awards ceremony will be held in Paris, France on May 31, 2013.

A group of African-American men called “The Brothers” has created the Tannie Awards as a means of preserving the legacy of its founder, Tannie Stovall, “in a positive and elegant manner.” Stovall was a graduate of Morehouse College and the University of Minnesota with degrees in Physics (B.S., Ph.D.).  He was a civil rights activist, historian, writer, investor, and film producer.  A long-time Paris expatriate and a patron of the African-American community in Paris, he was one of 24 expatriates featured in Black Paris Profiles (http://www.blackparisprofiles.com) – a publication that celebrates the contemporary African-American and Afro-Caribbean experience in the City of Light.

By creating the Tannie Awards, The Brothers seeks to support, spur, and increase the entrepreneurial spirit in the African-American community in Paris and to give a sense of meaning and purpose to the organization’s annual Spring Gala, which will henceforth be called “The Spring Gala and Tannie Awards.”

The awards recognize excellence in achievement for the following fields and endeavors: Business; Literature and Writers; Politics; Visual Arts; Entertainment; Webzines, Blogs, and IT (information technology); Film, Theater, and Dance; and Lifetime Achievement. The criteria for nomination in these categories are as follows:

• Excellence and achievement during the one-year period between Spring Galas.
• Networking with the African-American community in Paris.

Nominees need neither reside in Paris nor be African-American to be eligible for an award.

Winners of the first series of Tannie Awards will be announced at the 3rd Annual Spring Gala and Tannie Awards on Friday, May 31st, 2013.
