What are the Financial Implications of Healthcare Reform on Austin Business?

By: anthonyBarnum

May 24, 2013 - PRLog -- The Affordable Care Act (ACA), as forecasted by the Congressional Budget Office, will provide healthcare coverage to approximately 27 million Americans.  However, with a price tag of $1.3 trillion, Austin’s manufacturing businesses need to understand and plan for both the opportunities and costs associated with healthcare reform today.

To address these challenges, on May 29, 2013 the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association (ARMA) is holding a forum focused on the “Urgent Issues for Manufacturers in the Affordable Care Act”. The event will be conducted as a panel discussion session with a Q&A session to follow.

The ARMA forum will examine the ACA through the following topics:

·         The responsibilities shared by employers

·         Calculation of full-time equivalent employees

·         Summary of employer penalties for “pay-or-play”

·         The new underwriting standards insurance carriers are required to apply on January 1, 2014

“Businesses now must be managed with the financial implications of the ACA in mind,” said Cyndi Mergele, senior manager of Human Resources Consulting, Padgett, Stratemann & Co., LLP, and event moderator.  “With more knowledge and insight local manufacturing firm can benefit greatly and avoid the penalties associated with noncompliance the ACA.”
